Verdict Won for Woman Bitten by Pitbull

JANESVILLE, WI – A Janesville jury awarded a $15,000 verdict to a Janesville woman who was bitten by a co-worker's dog. The victim was represented by Jonathan Groth of Pitman, Kyle & Sicula, S.C.

The victim, a 44-year-old female, was employed at a Janesville-area car dealership when an off-duty co-worker brought his American Staffordshire Terrier, more commonly known as a Pitbull, into the dealership to pick up his paycheck. The victim, familiar with the Pitbull from previous encounters, bent down to pet the dog. The Pitbull turned away from the victim briefly, but then quickly lunged back around and bit her in the face.

As a result of the bog bite, the victim suffered scarring on her left cheek. The plaintiff alleged that the defendant was liable for two times the full amount of damages caused by the dog because the defendant was notified or knew that the dog had previously injured or caused injury to a person. The lawsuit was filed in Rock County Circuit Court.
