The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that American Foods Group has voluntarily recalled 96,000 pounds of ground beef products after two people were sickened by E.coli bacteria. The beef products include sirloin and chop beef, coarse and fine ground chuck that were produced on Oct. 10. They were distributed in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland and Virginia. They were distributed for further processing and repackaging and will not have the company's establishment number on the package. E. coli 0157:H7 is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause diarrhea and dehydration. The young, elderly and people with compromised immune systems face the greatest risk. Consumers should contact their retailers to see if the products in question were at stores. You should also check your freezer and return or throw out the products if you find them.
