Cereal Recalled for Possible Salmonella
On April 8, 2008 Malt-O-Meal issued a warning to consumers regarding its Unsweetened Puffed Rice and Puffed Wheat cereals due to a risk of salmonella. Salmonella bacteria may cause diarrhea, fever, vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain. Some cases of salmonella may be severe and possibly life threatening to the young and elderly.

Although no illnesses linked to the recalled cereals have been reported, a routine safety testing detected salmonella in a product made March 24, 2008. The cereals were distributed nationwide under the Malt-O-Meal name and as some private names which include: Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's ShopRite, Tops, and Weis Quality.

The cereals in question can be identified by the following codes:

APR0808
MAR1809

These boxes may also be identified by the "Best if Used by" dates which range from April 8, 2008 to March 18, 2009. If you have consumed any of these cereals and have experienced diarrhea, vomiting, fever, nausea or abdominal pain as a result, please contact Pitman, Kyle & Sicula at 800-950-9882 or fill out one our "Contact Us" forms on www.pkslawfirm.com .
